Abstract

The development of democracy as a complex and multidimensional process is the main goal of many societies. This process includes creating and strengthening democratic structures and processes, protecting citizens rights and creating space for their participation in political decisions, As a religion and social system, Islam provides principles and values to protect democracy. The European Court of Human Rights also helps to preserve and promote democracy in the member states of the Council of Europe by protecting the fundamental rights, promoting the democratic principle and condemning democratic violations. This research, which has been carried out in a descriptive-analytical method and by using library and internet resources, has attempted to answer the question that the development of How can democracy be realized in Islam and the practice of the European court of Human Rights? Combining these two concepts proves that both contribute to the development of democracy in societies with their principles and values. The conclusion of this article shows that by respecting religious principles and Human Rights, the development of democracy can be achieved in both concepts, and the exchange of knowledge and experiences between Islam and Europe can help the development and progress of societies.
