Abstract

The General Assembly of the United Nations, as one of the main organs of the organization, plays a vital role in addressing global crises and threats. This body can utilize certain legal powers to take action when the Security Council, due to the use of the veto or lack of agreement among its permanent members, is unable to make necessary decisions. One of the most important tools for the General Assembly in this context is the "Uniting for Peace" resolution, which allows the Assembly to take decisions in urgent situations to maintain international peace and security. This resolution is particularly significant in crises where immediate intervention is required to prevent the escalation of war or global threats. This article, while examining the powers of the General Assembly, concludes that if these powers are effectively utilized and coordinated with other United Nation bodies, they can serve as a valuable tool for overcoming the veto power and maintaining international peace and security.
