Abstract

Water security means continuous access to water of sufficient quality and quantity to meet human and environmental needs. To address this issue, the international community has significantly recognized the importance of access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities within the framework of human rights. The main question of the present study is what is the importance of addressing the issue of the right to water security in the light of the Iranian legal system and international documents? The aim of this study, relying on a qualitative research method based on a descriptive-analytical approach, is to understand the impact of the importance of the concept of the right to water security in the light of international documents and the reasons for the close relationship between political authority and the right to water security in the Iranian legal system. According to the findings of the present study, in order to improve the situation of water laws in Iran, legislators should first pass a comprehensive law in the field of water. Secondly, in part of this comprehensive water law, the concept of the right to water security is officially and explicitly addressed, and while providing a precise and expert definition of this term, taking into account important climate variables, the environment, the volume of water resources, and the amount of water consumption in different regions of the country, comprehensive solutions and laws that are appropriate for different regions and areas of the country should
